I think the title summarizes the day very well!
We were so excited when we woke up this morning, we couldn't wait to get to the stadium.. Traffic was crazy even though we left 3 and 1/2 hours before kick-off! The taxi driver even told us that we were going to get to the stadium faster if we walked.. And of course we had time for a taxi selfie!
During our walk to the stadium we met fans from Australia and Netherlands and they were showing their colors very proudly!
He tried to photo bomb so we took a selfie with him!
And did I mentioned that we saw Netherlands arrive at the stadium?!
That was pretty awesome! Van Persie is cuter in person! ;)
Once we got closer to the stadium anxiety started to build up.. We went through security and the madness began!!
The stadium was beautiful, a perfect stage for a World Cup game..
Since we weren't watching our teams play we just enjoyed the game.. It was one of the best if not the best game of the World Cup so far! After you experience a goal in a stage like this, nothing will ever feel the same!!
The game was even for the first couple of minutes but as soon as Netherlands scored, it gave a huge turn! Australia scored less than a minute later and the stadium went nuts!! The dutch were still celebrating and they couldn't believe it! The Australian side scored a golazo!
After the half we thought that Australia was going to pull an upset. The referee gave Australia a clear penalty and they went up 2-1. The Australians thought they were going to get away with the much needed win.. but, Van Persie and company had something else in mind. Van Persie scored a beautiful goal and minutes later the dutch were up 3-2!
The Australian fans kept supporting their team and believed until the last minute they could win the game. It was really heartbreaking seeing the Australian players laying on the pitch defeated.. But, this is the World Cup, eventually someone has to go home!
After the game we walked to the Fan Fest to watch Spain vs Chile.. It took us forever to ge there!! At first we were walking in the wrong direction and then, we could see it very far away! It felt like it took us like 3 hours to get there but we made it in time to watch the Spaniards..
This are our Aussie friends.. And yes, we don't even know their names. .
It was a though game for Fhara but this is what happens to every defending champion on the World Cup.. We're definitely going to have another Champion! (Vamos Brasil!!! Rumbo a o HEXA!) :)
To finalize our day we ate at this extremely small and weird "cafe".. Honestly it was't weird, basically it's just a "street cafe".. First of all we didn't even knew what the "menu" said and the hostess tried to help us the best she could.. We ordered 2 Xis one of "frango" and the other one of "carne". Honestly it was really good, it was like a sandwich of meat or chicken.. (sorry, I forgot the picture!)
I still can't believe I attended a World Cup game. The feeling is indescribable and I hope everyone gets to experience something similar in their lifetime!!
Based on what I've seen so far, Porto Alegre is extremely beautiful.. We're exploring the city tomorrow!!
